Sharing How to Identify Gaps to Improve Maintenance

at Our Recent MCP AMIS Open Day

At MCP, we are dedicated to helping organisations enhance their maintenance practices. Whether it's through specialised technical or management training, one-off consultancy, or guiding clients along our industry-leading AMIS Journey, we are here to support improvement every step of the way.

What good looks like in maintenance

Richard explaining what good looks like in maintenance.

Our AMIS system, developed over 30 years ago, serves as a key tool to assess maintenance performance and identify areas for enhancement. Understanding how your organisation compares to industry standards is crucial in recognising where improvements can be made.

To give our clients and prospective customers a deeper understanding of the AMIS process, we recently hosted an open day at our Solihull location. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the framework and learn how it can transform their maintenance operations. Here's a quick look at what was covered.

What is ‘Good’ in Maintenance

We began by asking attendees to complete a brief questionnaire, designed to assess their perceptions of their maintenance performance across several key areas. Our Managing Consultant, Richard Fathers, then delivered a presentation on what "good" maintenance practices should look like.

The AMIS Process

After Richard’s session, we asked participants to complete the same questionnaire again. The results were very interesting! They revealed how our initial perceptions of "good" can vary significantly, but with a clearer understanding of industry benchmarks and best practices, scores dropped across the board. This highlights a valuable insight: we may not always be performing as well as we think!

The AMIS Process and Journey

Roy Davies, Senior Consultant at MCP, then provided an in-depth explanation of how the AMIS system works and how to best prepare for it to achieve optimal results. He also addressed potential challenges that organisations might encounter throughout the process.

The Benefits of AMIS

Richard then outlined the short and long-term benefits of following the AMIS Journey, emphasising how it positively impacts not only organisations but also their employees.

Customer Q&A

To conclude, we invited Darren Wright from Howdens to share his ongoing experience with AMIS and answer questions from the group. Hearing first-hand insights from an organisation actively following the AMIS Journey proved invaluable, and we sincerely thank Darren for his time and valuable contributions.
